The all new Strap Lock is the evolution of a design, that started out several years ago, to keep the tow strap secure but easy to get to when needed.

The Strap Lock is made out of Code 100, 5000 series polished aluminum Tread Bright. Along with the good looks, it is lightweight, strong, and will not rust. It will hold any common strap in 20´ or 30´ length and either 2Ý or 3Ý width.

Included with the Strap Lock is a full assortment of hardware to allow you to pick what you need for your custom installation. All hardware has a durable zinc finish in case you choose to mount it outside your vehicle. Another great feature about the Strap Lock is that it can be installed again and again. If you ever change your mind or need to re-pack your gear in a new configuration, you will be able to adjust the Strap Lock as needed.

The CNC machined pattern is designed to help let the tow strap breathe and dry out. The large openings on top and the sides will allow it to dry if it is put away wet or stored outside in wet weather. This will help ensure that the most important part of your recovery gear stays in top condition. Obviously items that we find necessary for our trips, items that make life in the boondocks a little more comfortable and upgrades for our Jeeps to make them better and to give them more utility.

They also have to be a quality product from a manufacturer, distributor or dealer that has a good reputation and good customer service. Reputations are made good and bad over time and newer products from little known companies deserve a chance. Customer service is obvious from your 1st encounter with the person at the other end of the phone or email you are talking with.

We have been approached to to reviews on a number of items and some never make it to these pages......and some do, like The Strap Lock.

Chances are that unless you are from Arizona, in the Phoenix area you probably are not familiar with Hunter Off-Road. Hunter Off-Road has been around for some time and to some is considered one of the best if not the best custom fabricators around. John makes custom tube buggies, frames, roll cages, roof racks, bumpers suspensions and more. I first met John back around 2000 or so on a trip to AZ when I needed something modified and welded for the roof mounted spare tire carrier on my ZJ. While he seemed busy on several "cool" projects, John took the time to take care of me and even invited me to his annual BBQ. While time and other factors would not allow me to make it back to AZ for John's BBQ which seemed to be "the event" in Dec for the 4x4 crowd in the Phoenix area, it was the beginning of a new friendship that continues to this day. Fortunately 2 years later I moved to AZ and have been to 5 of his BBQs since. But this review is about a new product and not social events so read on..............

As things would have it, I stopped by Hunter Off Road to talk about a couple of projects I was thinking about. Sometime during the conversation, John picked up this package and said "have you seen this yet"? He was holding a heat sealed plastic package that had a "label" inside, some diamond plate and some hardware. It looked like something you might find in most 4x4 stores but I had never seen one. It was The Strap Lock. A simple device that you mount in your Jeep, on your roll bar, on the roof rack, on or in a storage box, just about anywhere to keep your recovery strap from getting lost or misplaced in your rig. I thought what a great idea !

I asked John where he got it and he smiled and said "I make them". I told him he needs to have one of those late night informertials with that guy that yells at you about how great something is and if you call in the next 5 min you get two for the price of one. John laughed and said maybe some day. Maybe we can do a U-Tube video as a start.

Now I know that some of you have been in this situation before, you need your recovery strap and it's buried under other gear and sometimes you aren't really sure where it's buried. With The Strap Lock you alwasys know where your strap is and can easily get to it when the need arises.

While John puts hardware in the bag for a couple of different options (2" or 3" strap) where and how you mount it can be as simple as some of the examples/suggestions on The Strap Lock web site or whatever your imagination comes up with. I have seen them mounted on top of one of those Rubbermaid plastic gear boxes and if need be you can easily reverse that installation to keep in on the inside of the box. One guy has it mounted to an old military ammo can (the big one), another to his tail gate, one to his bumper, on a roof rack, on the top of side of the rear wheel well of his Wrangler.......well you get the point, you can mount it anywhere. Me I am going to mount mine behind the spare tire on my swing out tire carrier next to my HiLift.

Being a person who always puts something where he can find it and then when he needs it can't, The Strap Lock is the perfect accessory for me. For the price of just a family visit to McDonalds you too can own one of these unique and necessary items for your Jeep! Its quality made and priced right. Where is your strap at ?

Pictures of Jeep Intallations coming soon:

Read more about The Strap Lock at the official website

Read more about Hunter Off Road at his website.

<? // INCLUDE PAGE FOOTER include("includes/footer.php"); ?>
