Planned Trip : Moab Jeep Expedition May 17-25, 2008

|
Moab Utah, Jeep Mecca of the world some say.....you need a week !
Our 1st, and certainly not our last Expedition to the world famous trails of Moab, UT
THIS IS A JEEP ONLY EVENT FOR MEMBERS OF THE JEEP EXPEDITIONS GROUP!
This is NOT just for the die hard rock crawler as we have planned this trip with the stock Jeep and beginner in mind !.
We will split daily into two groups:
Group 1: the "lifted and locked" group where anything goes and ......
Group 2: the easy trail group where the hardest trails we are going to do would rate an average of 2.5 to 3.0 on the 5 scale.
We are planning two optional overnight Expeditions in the Moab area: 1. The 100 mile White Rim Trail 2. Various trails and history with overnight camping at Thelma and Louise point, high above the Colorado River.
Most of us think of 4+ trails and technical wheeling, body damage, drive train breakage and overall carnage when the work Moab comes up but Moab has literally a thousand miles of trails, maybe more. Most of them accessible by a STOCK or slightly modified Jeep.
I took my 98 ZJ to Moab 3 years ago. Bone stock except for rock sliders and factory skid plates/off-road package. I did 13 trails in one week, never got a scratch or any damage and experienced the "other side" of Moab. From Thelma and Louise Point to the "herd" of dinosaur foot prints at Klondike Bluffs, to the many sites of petroglyphs, deep red canyons, hidden arches and so much more. 1600+ digital pictures in all. Sure we drove to some of the really tough sites like Potato Salad hill and watched people roll their rides and the nuts on the Lions Back but we did trails that any novice or experienced off-roader would enjoy safely.
The plan is to leave for Moab on a Saturday and come back a week later on a Sunday. You really need a week, it takes a good day just to get there and another to get back. Base camp will probably be at a commercial campground just north of town that also offers cabin rentals. We could possibly have an overnighter on one of the trails.
Trip will be limited to the 1st 15 "lifted and locked" Jeeps and 15 easy trail Jeeps that sign up for a total of 30.
