Trip Report: Monument Valley - May 9-10, 2009

|
Monument Valley - Spring 2009 - New trails plus another run at Hunts Mesa !
Yah ah tee hay!
THIS IS A JEEP ONLY EVENT FOR MEMBERS OF THE JEEP EXPEDITIONS GROUP!
John Wayne and John Ford. Two of the most powerful and recognizable names in classic and epic westerns. Monument Valley, easily one of the most recognizable landscapes in the world !
Set off on our 2nd adventure to the majestic Monument Valley with a new and exciting trail for Saturday and Hunts Mesa the 2nd day. Initial Plans are to camp again at the base of Rain God Mesa but are subject to change.
Set off again on a memorable trip in May 2009 when the average temps are 48 at night and 78 in the day to the historic heart of the southwest. We will hire native Navajo Guides to take us places most people will never seen in an unforgettable trip thru Monument Valley. Our tour will be almost entirely off-road in the sandy desert and we will camp one night under the stars, just like our old movie heroes, cavalry soldiers in the 1800s and countless Indian braves and ancient peoples of days long past.
This great valley boasts sandstone masterpieces that tower at heights of 400 to 1,000 feet. framed by scenic clouds casting shadows that graciously roam the desert floor. The angle of the sun accents these graceful formations, providing scenery that is simply spellbinding.
The landscape overwhelms, not just by its beauty but also by its size. The fragile pinnacles of rock are surrounded by miles of mesas and buttes, shrubs, trees and windblown sand, all comprising the magnificent colors of the valley. All of this harmoniously combines to make Monument Valley a truly wondrous experience. See why Monument Valley has been called one of America's "Top 4x4 Destinations"
This is one of our few trips that will involve a cost. The estimated cost for two days of guides and a night of camping will be approximately $200 per Jeep for guide services/outfitter, tip and permits. A $50 deposit will be required within 5 days of signing up.
